Basics
A Distant Website is a website on which is installed the JMonitoring plugin. It's a website that you want to be monitored by your Master Website.
The Master Website is the website on which is installed the JMonitoring component. It allows you to manage your Distant Websites list and monitor them. It also contains all your Distant Websites datas as logins, extensions, etc.
Installation/Organisation
It's highly recommended to install the Master Website on a securised local server. Indeed, you have to protect your Master Website because it contains sensitive datas as logins.
We recommend to use a completely new Joomla! installation and to use it only for JMonitoring.
- The JMonitoring component must be installed on your Master Website.
- The JMonitoring plugin must be installed on your Distant Websites depending on their Joomla! version (1.0.x or 1.5.x)
No, because webservices are really restricted. If you only use JMonitoring, the only thing that could be done is sending informations about your extensions and website's health.
If a hacker would do something on your website, he firstly has to install a communicator on your website, so he will need your password. All you need to do is to keep your passwords in a safe place.
Issues
Verify that your Distant Website's JMonitoring plugin is installed and activated.
Verify that the Distant Website's configuration allows the Web Services (Menu->Site->Global Configuration->System tab->Enable Web Services set to "Yes")
Verify that your Master Website's server has cUrl well installed and activated.
If you modified the name of your template or removed it manually, you have to check the table jos_template_menu and do modifications here too.
